Denis Brousseau

Denis Brousseau obtained his PhD in physics from Université Laval in 2008, under the supervision of Professor Ermanno F. Borra. After completing his PhD, he joined the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Optical Design at the Université Laval as a research professional under the direction of Professor Simon Thibault, who holds the chair.

He carries out scientific and industrial optical design work, and participates in the Chair’s research activities. In the field of astronomical instrumentation, he participated in the design, assembly and testing of the optical components of SITELLE and SPIRou, two instruments of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. He developed an optical simulation bench for NIRISS (JWST) and took part in the optical design of PESTO (OMM).

He is currently working on the NIRPS instrument (Near Infra-Red Planet Searcher), an infrared spectrometer for ESO’s 3.6-metre telescope in Chile, and GIRMOS (Gemini Infrared Multi-Object Spectrograph), a multi-object infrared spectrograph for the Gemini Observatory.
